Cup waterer gravity flow?

We have a cup waterer with fresh water (pressurized) in the summer. But winters are cold and hoses freeze in the barn. Want to get away from 15gal heated buckets that they tip or get disgusting with wash back. Do the cup wateres work on gravity flow?
Which type? We have the type they push a button and it fills but what about the type with a float?
And if you put them in a barrels t (30, 50etc..) how do you secure them so they don't rip them off?

Hoping maybe I can use one in a 80gal water Trough with heater till farrowing then In barrels with de-icers/heaters this winter during farrowing/nursery when each will need to be in a separate pen and space gets tight.
Thoughts?

Not sure if this helps or not, when I was cramped for space at our hold home we had pens and I used a 50 gallon barrel to water out of. Used a Gravity Flow Spiglet 07 Nipple Connector Kit from Trojan and split the pens with a nipple on each side. I boxed in the barrel so they couldn't rub on it and with the nipple I drilled out a hole in the board just big enough for the nipple to go through and they could use it but the board supported it and kept them from tearing it apart. Used just a regular water heater to keep it from freezing inside. You can also use this type of barrel on the outside of the pen and instead of the nipple going directly on the connector kit you can attach a pipe to give you a further extension then put the nipple at the end of the pipe. Secure the pipe and you should be good. I also know guys that will hang the barrel from the ceiling and attached 1 or 2 lines with nipples attached to them for watering as well. Hope this helps
