Cup waterer problem

Post by Jsmiga » Mon Nov 25, 2019 10:24 pm

I have installed cup waterers in my kid’s hog pens. I have two hogs that just trigger the water and flood their pens. I was told that the cup waterer was not supposed to let this happen, as the pig’s nose would supposedly be under water, forcing them to stop. Obviously they learned to hold breath. What can I do to stop this? What should the height of the waterers be? I’m out of ideas...

From a height stand point since it's a cub water, I'd say just high enough where they can reach it to drink. Really though once they start that it's a hard habit to break, almost easier to put the nipple water in and if you're able to have it on an adjustable pipe that you can raise and lower relatively easy and as they get taller raise it to where they have to reach to get a drink. I just wouldn't keep it low where it's easy for them to just stand there and hold the trigger down.
