Limestone Screenings as a stall base?

Post by kyle0013 » Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:55 am

Has anyone used limestone screenings as a base in their barn? I'm building a barn, and its looking harder and harder to swing a concrete floor this year, so I was thinking of using screenings. These are like crushed limestone, lots of powder and small (1/4" and less) pebbles. It compacts nice and firm, would allow water to drain, and makes a nice base for concrete maybe next year. I would still plan to use a good bed of shavings over the screenings, but pigs are pigs and they are going to find the screenings at the bottom no matter what.

Any experience from this group?
