Talk tonight

Post by oltmanjt21 » Wed Dec 09, 2015 7:57 pm

Is there where I need to be to watch the talk tonight at 7pm? When I click on the link it doesn't go anywhere. Do i get to see a video of it live? Do I need to wait to click on the link right at 7pm? I am already logged in to Showpig.com.

I wouldn't add water to it. It will begin to swell and pigs generally will not eat it at that point. I hear this infrequently. (once in awhile, but not very infrequently).

A few things; first look on the bag on the white strip where the tag is located and look at the date code and see how old it is. The date is day it was manufactured. It might also be located on the tag itself, but I believe it's on the white strip.

Secondly, start slow and increase slowly. I added some sweetner to Depth Charge last Spring and this is the first time since then that I've heard this complaint. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but you mentioned that you've had 5 years of this, and others have had zero problems. So, something is going on, but I am not sure what. With adding the sweetner, pigs should be eating it fine. However, some may not i realize that.

In that event, use a small (or large) amount of High Octane Heavy Weight and add water to it to produce a thick milk shake like consistency (almost like whipped cream), and add that to Depth Charge. It doesn' take much 2 to 4 oz. Pigs should eat that readily.

HONOR Show Chow PRELUDE 209 is for newly weaned pigs (12 to 15 lbs in bodyweight). Then HSC PRELUDE 309 from 15 to 25 lbs. Some folks just leave pigs on 309 until they are sold. This works well.

HSC Showpig 509 is for pigs weighing 25 to 50 lbs. It is designed to maximize the "look" of a prospect showpig.

What are you thoughts on feeding pigs before they are weaned? Also, I believe there is an ultra care product that is for younger pigs compared to Honor 209. If i do feed my pigs before they are weaned, should i feed them the Ultra care of just start them on Honor 209? :D

It is a good idea to offer feed prior to weaning. However, young nursing piglets are not going to eat much or even try to prior to 10 days of age. There is a new Ultracare Creep feed that entices pigs to begin eating at an early age.

My suggestion is to begin offering that when the pigs are 10 days old. About 5 days prior to weaning mix in the PRELUDE 209. Research has shown that feeding the feed you plan to wean them onto help pigs eat better once they are weaned.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know what the new Ultra Care creep feed is called?

Also, will you discuss how often and of what product we should be worming with: sows, gilts, and show pigs?

Thanks.

Full Tank is a Sunglo product, High Octane Depth Charge is a Purina product.

They both do approximately the same thing. However, Depth Charge has some ingredients to promote palatability. And in my opinion since I formulated Depth Charge it works better :)

We're having a prospect pig sale, what do we need to feed those pigs with to make them look there best but won't make them melt down after the sale?
