Too much protein?

Post by hercules » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:16 pm

Can too much protein make a pig sick? We were feeding linders 18% with Surechamp, Champion Drive, and Powerfuel. Our pigs both got diareah and one was vomiting the food. We have taken them off the supplements for now and are doing much better. They both way 150 and show in 40 days. Want to hit 180 lbs. What do you suggest?

Not unusually no. Abs it depends upon how much you are feeding. It's not just protein. If you were feeding a high protein feed (20% or more), and low fat (3%), and high protein supplements, maybe.

It also has to do with energy (calories). If there is enough energy in the daily diet then protein is rarely an issue. Any time vomitong is an issue look at the possibility of an ulcer.
