Chapion Drive Last Week

Post by machog » Wed Aug 03, 2016 4:50 pm

Have a barrow that could be looser in his movement. He has been on 24oz of champion drive. Would it be best to pull him off of the champion drive for the last 7 days before fair? He looks good muscle wise etc, just a little tight.

What else is he on?
Probably could back it down to 16 oz, he could start to lose shape if you remove it from his diet. These ones that get tight get a bunch of cold water hosing at my place. Seems to help.

24 oz champion drive
6 oz heavy weight
8 oz depth charge
5 lbs Showrite 1705 17.5 % protein

Thanks for the help! We will try the cold water.

Remember it is not a bath or a rinse, keep the water running on him for 15 to 20 minutes. Use a timer, quite possibly the most boring thing besides traffic jams. Additional benefit is they will play with the hose and drink (proper hydration).

Norm,
Do you hose them off like this daily or just a few days leading up to show day

Depends on the pig. If they have an injury or swelling, I'll do it in conjunction with antibiotic treatment for a week/ten days. If they are just tight or stiff at the show grounds from travel, I'll do it just for a few days. Similar to whirlpool baths and ice packs in human athletes. Need to watch they don't get to feeling too good, have had ones tear out of the wash rack and splay in the puddle. Just showring luck sometimes.
