Will Purina be changing its feed?

Post by Kalaw » Mon Nov 28, 2016 2:37 pm

Wondering what changes we can expect, if any, to be made to the Honor Show Chow line up to accommodate the new antibiotic regulations?

We have already made the changes in Sept. 2016. 209, 309, 509 are medicated with Denagard. The GF feeds 709, 809, and 909 are non medicated.

A couple questions
Will carbadox be available?
I thought carbodox did not need a VFD
Also if I have a VFD for Linco will that be available?

Thanks

KGB do you foresee any changes to feeding regimens and programs with the new non medicated Purina HSC?

Carbadox (mecadox) may be available in other brands (for awhile), but not in any HSC feeds. The FDA has made it clear that the days for Carbdox are numbered. Carbadox was banned in Canada twenty years ago, because it is considered a carcenogen.

Linco probably won't be available in HSC feeds (709). However, 309 is available with CTC & Denagard with a VFD special order only basis (3 ton minimum). We chose to make it as easy as possible for our customers to do business with us. I searched the data and the conclusion is that the nursery is the most critical phase of production. The data clearly shows that pigs 40 lbs and up show no difference between medicated feeds and non medicated feeds. So, will there be a difference in how we feed Showpigs? Yes, some will need medicated it's inevitable.

Here's the thing; when pigs are sick they eat very little feed. Therefore, in feed medication is not nearly as effective as injectable and water soluble. Sick pigs still drink water.

Your health protocols will vary, but stick to them, watch who you allow around your pigs, keep them healthy.
