Champion drive

Post by dingdar » Sun Aug 27, 2017 10:37 am

Had 5 pigs on feed this summer. 2 wouldn't eat champion drive and the other 3 never did shape up. Fed it for 45 days at 1 pound per day. Never saw the results that we have in the past.

Question is, did the formula change since last year?

I even started at 2oz a feeding and worked up from there. The 2 pigs would leave the whole meal. It took me 10 days to pull my head out before I removed the CD. Once I removed the CD they started eating again.

I think something has changed, I've been feeding CD for years with great intake and adding awesome shape.

Has anyone else had similar results this season?

Thanks

The formula has not changed. I'd have to be an idiot to change the formula.

Look at the date code on the bucket. Can you tell me what that is?

The date code will help me determine efficacy of the product. Could be something like W10345A

I have never had a pig not eat champion drive. However many feed stores around here will sell very old product, so I always check date code to ensure i am getting fresh product. At $52 a bucket there is no way I will acceept 12-20 month old product.

I had four on it this year and they loved to eat it. Worked really good on two, and alright on one and not very good on the other. Could be genetics that are not helping to the cause of them shaping up.

I have a question on when I should start Champion Drive. I have a gilt that is really nice all around and sound on her feet. We are feeding TruTrac to keep her sound. I believe that she will need a little more muscle or muscle expression. We are 69 days out and she weighs about 150. When should I start adding the Champion drive. Would it be during the last 30 days for the final push or should I start now.

I would start in smaller quantities now and gradually work up to 8 oz per feeding. Maybe 2-4oz now? It's a really good product and has additional benefits with some of the additives. Feeding into a higher rate will help gradually add that muscle you are looking for without compromising any soundness...not that champion drive would really do that. Good luck!

You could feed for the final 30 days, however Champion Drive continues to work as long as you feed it. If the gilt needs help with muscle I would feed 8 oz/day starting now. Once you get within 45 days increase to 1 lb per day.

I have another questions about feeding supplements.

With 32 days out we will start pushing for the final weight. We will have about 60 lbs to put on to hit our targets. That would be 3lbs of feed 2 times a day (HSC 809). I will be feeding about 4oz of Power Fuel and 6 Oz of Champion drive per feeding. I am also currently feeding 1oz of Rice Bran oil per feeding.

My question is (I just want confirmation) should I reduce base feed by the 10oz per feeding. So I would feed about 2.25 lbs of feed and my supplements per feeding. Would that give me the ADG of 2lbs.

I will probably be adding depth charge in there some where at 1lb a day so I would also subtract that too.

I know my supplement weights are odd but we are feeding 2 pigs and I am trying to find the right balance of $ and Supplement.
