KGB, any tricks to getting pig to transition over to 3# Fitter 35 and 1/2# Depth Charge per day(no to little gain)? Have a purebred duruc that can't weigh over 300# in 10 days. Weighs pretty close to that now, like 299!. Started this regimen but doesn't like to eat it (2 days ago). I know we kinda put him on it "cold turkey" from what he was eating. Been adding 1/2# groats or 1/2# HSC showpig base 809 equivalent grind & mix (total/day) feed to get him to eat it. All #'s are total for day, divided into 2 equal feedings. Been just eating some and nosing/throwing rest on floor. He's dialed in just about right, maybe could loose a little jowl and flank belly. Just don't want to loose shape. Have every HSC product available. Powerfill, Champion Drive, Ultra Full, Depth Charge, Fitter 35, Paylean, Heavy Weight, Power Fuel. Figure we'll loose 3% going to show (already will be shrunk out some) and have a 5% weigh-back, but would really like to keep him near 0 gain. Tall order, but I think we can do. Just if he'll start eating!
Re: Holding
Don’t add anything but the Fitter 35 and Depth Charge the switching cold turkey is the problem. Feed the Fitter 35 diet (half in morning and half in evening). For each feeding give the pig 20 minutes to eat it. If he is done (just doesn’t want to eat it), remove all the feed from the feeder and do NOT give the pig anything until the next feeding. Do the same thing (20 minutes).
Also, if the pig is still eating after 20 minutes, let him eat. If it takes a little longer that’s ok.
