This is not really a feed question but trying to prevent holding/pushing weight
Our weigh in is August 11
Weight 230 to 280
If you had a choice would you choose pig from January 22 or February 11 litter? Or would it not really matter?
We feed Purina. When is good time to start champion drive?
We hand feed twice a day 5 percent of body weight (total). What age is good to start that?
Thanks

Re: Age of pig
My personal preference would be Feb 11 litter , this would allow me to feed without holding back . ideally you would want to feed right up to weigh in , for the freshest looking animal . If the animal grows faster than expected you would want to control feeding around 160lbs based on length of day left to weigh in and average daily gain .
Re: Age of pig
My suggestion is to feed a pig that will be about 6 to 6 1/2 months old when shown. The 5% of bodyweight per day works until the pig reaches 100 lbs. After that Pigs will eat significantly less than that.
From 100 to 150 lb feed 5 to 6 lb per day. From 150 lb to show feed 6 lb per day.
From 100 to 150 lb feed 5 to 6 lb per day. From 150 lb to show feed 6 lb per day.

Re: Age of pig
Another factor is gilt or barrow. Gilts tend to grow a bit slower so I would probably steer away from the older barrows and only consider a barrow from the younger litter if you don't want to have to manage them overly much. Likewise I would tend to go with the older gilts all else being equal.
