Building the front half

Post by MapleHillFarm » Wed Mar 28, 2018 8:05 pm

I'm needing some advice on the best way to build up the front half of a crossbred gilt. I have a great looking pig and the back half is looking good, but she's lacking around the ribs and shoulders. Feeding, nutrition, or any other tips would be helpful.

What are you currently feeding (feed, supplements etc....)?

SHe's right around 50 pounds so HSC 709 is what we just started feeding with full feed. We knew when we bought her she was going to be smaller up front, but we hoped to be able to do a feed management/nutrition program to help her along, but wasn't sure what approach to take and when to take it.

The only thing I know of that might make a difference is working on muscle. When you say "up front" I'm assuming you are talking about shoulders and base width. Developing muscle helps to pull the skeleton apart.....some. You might try 8 oz per day Champion Drive until the pig reaches 175 lbs or so, and then increase to 1 lbs per day.
