heavyweight-how early is too early

Post by ddwil » Fri May 18, 2018 7:53 am

wanting to know if it is too early to implement a fat supplement(Heavyweight) to increase consumption and rate of gain as the pigs are not eating real well. The pigs weigh 75-85 lbs. On 709, and they are getting about 3-4 lbs of feed per day and not totally cleaning up all their feed. They were all given Ivomec last week.

Not KGB, but my $.02

That's a tick early for fat supplements. I'd try to get more feed into them, feeding smaller meals more frequently helps. Other option is to switch to 809 has more energy than 709. Typically don't start ones on heavyweight until 140# or heavier.

Good luck!

You can feed the High Octane supplements whenever you need them. 75-80 lb is not too young for Heavy Weight, they just don’t need as much as a heavier pig.

Start at 4 oz per day. Mix the Heavy Weight with enough water to make a milk shake like consistency and then add to the feed. (Need to be hand feeding)
