holding heavy muscle gilt

Post by ohiopigman » Tue May 22, 2018 5:08 pm

I have a heavy muscled gilt, feeding 5 1/2 lbs of16% and hand full of oats and she's looking good. Currently weighs 200 lb and we have 53 days to weigh in and max weight is 290, but need to be probably 275 range. She is huge in rear and shoulder but needs more fill. Currently gaining 1.69 ADG. Need a feeding plan.

To take her to 275, she needs to AVERAGE gaining 1.42 lbs/day (275 - 200) / 53 days = 1.42 lb/day.

If you take her to 280 lbs she needs to AVERAGE 1.51 lbs per day (280 - 200) / 53 days = 1.51 lbs/day

If you take her to 290 lbs she needs to AVERAGE 1.69 lbs per day (290 - 200) / 53 days = 1.70 lbs/day

Sometimes it's better what they look like at the end of the feeding period, not a specific weight. Just something to think about. The easiest way to do this is to feed:
(TOTAL DAILY FEED; DIVIDE INTO 2 EQUAL MEALS):
HSC 809 ( or 909) 2 lbs
HIGH OCTANE Powerfill 2 lbs
HIGH OCTANE Depth Charge 1/2 lbs (8 oz)

The gilt should average 1.5 lbs per day on this diet and look very nice. If you desire to do something else it's better if you send me an e-mail so I can send you some information on how to do that. kgburgoon@landolakes.com
