KGB-Holding options... Need Help!

Post by EFS » Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:11 pm

KGB, currently have a gilt weighing 285#'s with 8 days till weigh in with a 300# max. Would like to keep her under 295# by the day before weigh in. Currently for the last 3 days am feeding 2# Powerfill, 1# Champion Drive and 8 oz. Depth Charge to minimize ADG, since she has been gaining 15-20# per week for the past 3 weeks. Tonight I started to notice she is starting to lose her full fresh appearance. Would I be better off switching her to the 3# Fitter 35 and 8 oz. Depth Charge or could I add some Fitter 52 to my current feeding ration to help with muscle building and full appearance without uping my ADG? I plan on feeding her only once on the day before weigh in and taking water away that night also. Also what would be a good feed plan for the 6 days between weigh in and showday? I currently have Champion Drive, Fitter 52, Paylean, Depth Charge, PowerFill and Ultra Full in my supplement inventory to use between now and showday. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If she weighs what you say she does she will probably be losing her freshness. I would run her at 3lb of fitter 35 and lot let her eat anything else till she learns to eat it. On show day blow the gut out a little but not too much by feeding her a little base feed and depth charge.

You can do a lot in 6 days. By the way, when you reduce the feed to 3 lbs per day or so, they are going to lose fill. It may sometimes look like they've lost some freshness but when they are pretty hollow it's deceiving. After weigh in feed and water slowly. If you do so too fast they will have projectile diarrhea (paint your pants if you know what I mean).

So, slowly....after weigh in the first day give her a drink and then 1/2 to 2/3 lbs of feed. Then 2 hours later another drink, and a pound of feed. When you fill her back up (I'm assuming there is no weigh back at your show) use regular feed (like HSC 809 or 909). There is no need to stay with the 3 lbs per day Fitter 35 etc...

Although if she could use some shape I suggest replacing 1 lbs of Fitter 35 (from now until weigh in) with 1 lbs of Fitter 52. Fitter 52 is amazing, it burns fat and produces shape. Then after weigh in feed a mixture of:

5 lbs regular showpig feed
1 lbs Fitter 52
1/2 lbs Depth Charge

You might mix this up in a bucket and feed out of that bucket. The Fitter 52 will continue to work after weigh in helping with shape.

Thanks KGB for all your help. Gilt end up being Grand Champion County Farrow to Finish, Grand Champion Market Gilt and Reserve Overall Market Hog. Beat by Grand Barrow for Overall Champion just due to being not down far enough on her front pads. Overall great gilt. Wish she could of came home. Thanks again.

I have a barrow that is about 30 days out from the show and can still gain 40-45lbs. He could definitely use some trimming up through his throat and more expression through his lion. I sure wouldn't mind if he didn't gain a lot for the next 10-12 days either. With that being said from the research I've done FITTER 52 sounds like the ideal feed to go to. My question is what rate do I need to feed and is it the sole feed in your recommended ration or does it need a base feed along with it?

High Octane Fitter 52 is a supplement (needs to be fed with feed).

You can feed High Octane FItter 35 at 3 lbs per day and 1/2 lbs per day High Octane Depth Charge to achieve about a 0.30 lbs per day growth rate.

Fitter 52 is designed to feed the final 14 to 21 days at 1 lbs per day. Usually, 14 days does it.

KGB, I want to add mass through their center body and rib and add shape up high, but keep their front third trim, all the while keeping them growing from 175 pounds on to the day of show? Is this possible and if so, how do you recommend doing this?

Yes it is very possible. Can you tell me:

- when is your show?
- what is the max weight limit?
- is the pig light, moderate or heavily muscled?
