Holding pig

Post by snipercoyote » Mon May 06, 2019 3:36 am

KGB, have a barrow thats 63 days from show and he weighs 190ibs now. Would like him to be 280 at show. He has a little to much cover right now, would like to open him up, up top and trim him up some.

The pig needs to AVERAGE gaining 1.42 lbs per day (280 - 190) / 63 days = 1.42 lbs per day.

Having a little too much cover now is good as he will need it when you slow him down. I suggest feeding for short periods (14 days at a time). Target growth rate that is less than what you calculate for the remaining total days.

We calculated 1.42 lbs/day from now until show. So, feed a diet that result in about 1.2 lbs per day or less for the next 14 days. In that way, the pig can grow faster with each successive period.

Send me an e-mail and I can send you information on how to do this:
