KGB - you have helped me greatly in he past! This is our last year of showing. We have two gilts, but one is very heavily muscled and developed a joint issue and will likely not be shown. The other gilt weighs 183 with 62 days to our show. Max weight is 275. She is currently eating 6 lbs. of 819 and 1 lb depth charge per day; divided into 2 equal feedings. She is a big framed, long hog so can easily go the max. Right now she can gain 1.48 lbs/ a day, but I would like to use paylean at the end to add some muscle definition. Can you suggest a feeding plan?

I haven’t seen an e-mail, but basically you need to make room for the extra weight gain. Just remember it doesn’t need to be fill out grow as fast as possible weight gain when fed Paylean.

Paylean will build muscle without the pig gaining 3 lb per day. But, you probably need to leave room for at least 2 lb per day for the final 21 days. (I realize you may only feed it for 14 days, or you may pulse it a couple times, but it will more than likely average out to 2 to 2.5 lb per day for 21 days.

So, 2 X 21 = 42 lb. just to give yourself some leeway figure 50 lb of gain during the final 21 days. So if you max limit is 275 lb, that means the pig needs to be about 225 with 3 weeks left.

Since you had about 60 days and the pig was about 185 (adjusting for the past couple days) that equates to an AVERAGE daily gain of 1.0 lb per day for 39-40 days.

You can see why I wanted to e-mail the information to you. There’s more .... send me an e-mail.
