Need a little advise (Paylean)

Post by flquacker » Thu Dec 26, 2019 10:05 am

We've been feeding Purina Honor Show chow since receiving the pig back in Sept. The pig is long and lean. He weighs 235 and has .55" back fat. We have 21 days to show and are wanting to put more weight on and put some more muscle mass. We were feeding Champion Drive as well but stopped a week ago and started feeding Heavy weight. I was advised to start feeding Paylean but am a little concerned because of the .55 back fat. We must have a minimum of .5 for show. I would like some advise on putting some weight on him and bulking up his muscles. THANKS

I would use the heavy weight and champion drive. Those are 2 different products. One adds fat and the other builds muscle. If your pig is cleaning up the feed you can also add more feed and try and push that way. Paylean is going to "burn" fat, or focus nutrients into muscle tissue building.

I’m wondering why you stopped Champion Drive when you began to add Heavy Weight? You can feed both together.

They do NOT counteract one another. Every metabolic process takes calories (energy) including muscle synthesis. Heavy Weight actually makes Champion Drive work better.

Thank you for your comments. The reason we took the Champions Drive away was because we didn't know any better. This is my daughter's first pig and this has all been a learning experience. Next year we'll research a little more rather than only taking friends advise. We'll give the Champion's Drive again but it doesn't seem to be giving the width oe fullness in the hams. Thanks

It actually does more for the pig’s top. However it does work on the rear end as well. Paylean works a little faster on the rear end.
