Help finishing show pigs

Post by jdjourden » Tue Jan 28, 2020 2:48 pm

I have one pig that weighs 255 and is 15 days from show with a max weight of 280. That means he can gain 1.6 pounds per day until the show he is being held with 2 pounds fitter 35, 1 pound fitter 52, 1/2 pound depth charge for 1 week. He could use more muscle definition and rib fill, but could stand to burn a little more of the jowl.

My second pig is at 240 with 21 days until the show. So he can gain 1.9 pounds per day. I have been holding him for a week with 3pounds fitter 35 and 1/2 pound of depth charge for the past week, and he could use more muscle definition, rib fill and a little more clean up in the jowl as well.

Any ideas of what I should feed?

It sometimes takes some time to burn fat etc... depending upon how much fat is needed to burn. For the first pig if you want to speed up the process switch to 2 lb per day Fitter 52 and 1 lb of Fitter 35. However, keep a very close eye on his total body condition.

Fitter 52 and Fitter 35 don’t just burn fat, then increase muscle and muscle shape as well. Also, if you want more rib increase Depth Charge to 1 lb per day.

For the second pig I would just give Fitter 35 some time to work.

This is our first year and seen some posts, we have a chester Barrow and he is on Depth charge, ultra full, beat pulp 16% high fat moormans and a pump of liquid fat he is getting a total of 6lbs a day he is 240 and we are 5 weeks from OYE . His max weight is 290 tring not to go that big. Would love some advice.
Could I feed him just Depth charge and ultra fill and still maintain him. Just asking

The answer is no. Pigs (or any other animal) have daily nutrient requirements that must be met. When those are not met the pig starts losing muscle, fat cover and freshness. They get “stale”.

Depth Charge and Ultra Full are not designed to meet those requirements. Those products are designed for fill... to produce a full appearance. High Zocrane Powerfill is the product you want.
