219 & 319 starter feeds

Post by porcine » Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:09 am

Kevin,

This is my first time using 219 & 319. I have used kalembach starter feeds for over 5 years and I decided to do a trail run with two summer litters. What is the recommendation or best practice when feeding 219 & 319. I have some questions. Both litters will be weaned from sows at 4 weeks of age and have 219 as a creep feed in the farrowing crate and are eating it. Both litters are at 21 days of age as of today.

Is 219 to be fed 1 bag per litter than move to 319 or do you feed 219 for a longer period before switching to 319?
How long does the litter stay on 319 before moving to 519?

The feeds are designed for:
219. 10 to 15 lb pigs
319. 15 to 25 lb pigs
519. 25 lb and up

219. 1 bag per litter
319. 3-4 bags per litter
519. Until you sell them or they reach 40 - 50 lb and can be transitioned to 719

219 makes a great creep feed, but I also suggest weaning the pigs onto 219 (if you are weaning at 28 days) at least for a few days then transition to 319.

Research data shows pigs do way better if they are fed the same feed that was used as a creep.
