Joint Health?

Post by piglover106 » Sun May 15, 2016 6:05 pm

Is there any sort of feed supplement or something i can put in my pigs water to help my pigs become more free moving in the joints. I have one pig that will walk kind of stiff in the back right leg and am hoping that adding a joint supplement could possibly help. Any ideas are helpful. Thank you.

In my area the closest feed store carries Show-Rite products. Natural Stride supplement is supposed to promote joint health. I think Muscle in Motion does a bit too. I'm sure the brand of feed you are feeding has a joint health top dress product.

Baking soda will also help his muscles recover and keep the acidic levels lower. (Not a joint repair)

None of these though are added to water. More of a top dress in the feed mix.

Are you sure it's joints and not a heavy muscled or just tight pig?
Does it do it only when beginning to walk from resting or all the time?
My joint supplements I start from day one and get them from tractor supply for equine, it's lest costly and I've never had a joint problem.

I've never fed more then that, nor have I fed to try and help correct an issue so I couldn't tell you past what I posted. The directions do talk about loading up for a week or two and then drop the amount.
So I do not see a problem with going full scoop once a day for a couple weeks.

Now I have seen this stuff work during in some friends older horses with joint problems and there horses were running and jumping like they had never hurt after a month of initial use.
That's what sold this stuff to me after seeing that.

Essential Feeds makes several effective products to help with joint health and function.

Equex is a liquid supplement that is Glucosamine based, and it also provides MSM for prevention of joint inflammation.

Pos-A-Trac is a meal supplement that contains natural minerals designed to relax and soften the muscle on a rounder or tighter muscled hog so that the muscle lays more correctly on to the skeleton.

Stroll'N is a pelleted supplement that combines both Equex and Pos-A-Trac, and it also contains biotin for hoof health.

Essential Feeds is also a distributor of LubriSyn, a liquid hyaluronic acid based product that replaces the "good fluid" in the joints to promote more flexibility.
