Need help on Putting weight on

Post by Jojobeans » Wed Mar 01, 2017 9:18 pm

The hog currently is weighting 178, she is on 4lbs of Sunglo 18-G and a cup of Sumo. Any recommendations on what to do?

Is that per meal or the daily total for the animal?

More feed equals more weight. What is your show date and what is your goal weight? With what you are feeding you should be gaining around 1.3 lbs a day. Feed that twice a day and your gain will go up.

Switch feeds. Find out what other feeds are available and switch. At this point you have nothing to lose. Some pigs just do not like the taste of the feed you are putting in front of them. I am helping a woman out who is feeding Sunglo and her pig will not eat 3lbs a day. I gave her some HSC 709 and the pig loves it.

I may try going back to Mooremans feed and see how that works, is she feeding the Sunglo 18-G as well this is my first year having a hog not eat 6-12 lbs a day of the 18-G

Yes she is feeding the Sungo 18%. Pigs are just like us, they don't always want to eat what is put in front of them. Be creative. They have a sweet tooth as well so you may need to add something sweet. One thing is for sure if you don't make weight then you don't show so try everything.

Take the sumo out and replace it with Heavy Weight from purina!

I've had better luck with them eating and converting on heavy weight.
