Fill Ham/Loin Junction?

Post by ElmerFudd » Fri Aug 04, 2017 2:51 pm

My daughter's Duroc gilts need a little help filling in the Ham/Loin junction. They are long and muscular. They are eating an 18% grind from the mill at about 6lbs per day each. 33 days until the fair and scale around 220 lbs now. The max allowed is 320. I would like to have them around 285-295. We have the following supplements available: HSC Heavy Weight, Powerfuel, Depth Charge, Champion Drive and Steam Rolled Oats. Any suggestions on feed combos is appreciated. We also have Paylean but I don't think they need it.

Visit the Essential Feeds website and order a gallon or two of Uni4m! A 50% liquid fat supplement with milk and egg product that does exactly what you're seeking while putting a firm cover down the hog's top. Designed to fill in the humps and bumps! Also if you have plenty of muscle and need to soften up and add body I would maybe lower the feed to a 16% this final month.

Thanks for the feed back. Put them on scale today and they were Gilt 230, Barrow 220 and Gilt #2 at even 200.

I agree with the 16% recommendation and if you have heavyweight that will accomplish your cover goal. Remember to start slow and and then increase. Start now as most fat products take 30-40 days to see results.
