When is too late to switch feed?

Post by gobigorgohome » Fri Dec 29, 2017 11:22 am

My daughter has 2 gilts for our local market show in 21 days. Right now they weigh 210 with minimum weight of 220 and max 270. They could both easily go to the high side with their frame size. Our problem is we can't get them to eat more than 5 lbs feed per day. We are feeding Sunglo 16% finisher. Hand feed twice per day. Have been wormed every 30 days with Safeguard. Gave both a shot of B12 yesterday.
I added Dyne for a while and they seemed to eat a little more. I switched to Heavy weight as I've had good luck with that in the past - I have fed as little as 2oz and a much as 8oz per feeding with as little as 16oz water to as much as 32 oz of water. I added 1 oz high octane paylean one week ago. I have tried adding Showts, cake mix, maple syrup and eggs with no improvement. One of them needs more fill but at this point I can't think about adding depth charge as she won't eat the feed she needs to eat. I have access to sunglo, Purina/Honor, Moormans and Lindners. Is it too late in the game to switch feeds?
Any suggestions is appreciated.

I wouldn't switch feeds...there are 2 products I think will help you quickly...1 is eatmoor by Moorman's. The other is the Vita Charge Liquid Boost if you can get it. I use a syringe and feed it to them orally. It's seriously like magic to get them eating hard quickly. In the future I always use the sure champ and vita charge products to keep them raging on the feed.

Paylean should help you too...it usually takes a week or so to start working.

S'more Fill from Sunglo works well for filling out pigs. My breeder used it and had a 240# pig that was reserve champ at a very competitive show. He couldn't get his pigs to eat either. S'more fill has marshmallows that helps to both fill out the pig but also gets them to eat more. Don't know if its too late for it to do much, but its an idea. Good Luck with your pigs.

Thanks. I have fed Sure champ in the past but didn't this year for some unknown reason. Won't make that mistake again!! Wonder if it's too late to start the sure champ and get results??

I think it would be beneficial now. Can you get the Sure Champ Spark? that stuff is awesome too and works fast.
