Big Pigs - How do we slow them down?

Post by FFA1888 » Wed Jan 10, 2018 11:59 pm

We just picked up our pigs for a show the first week of May which is 112 days away. The pigs were bigger than we thought they would be and each weigh about 150 pounds each. That gives just about an average of 1 pound a day they can gain. What can we feed them to slow them down and how much should we feed them.

Thanks

We had good luck last year with Powefill. We held one for a little over a month and she still won our show. You have a looooong time to go however. KGB can probably help you more.

That's really big for a May show and only have an ADG of 1. KGB does have some feed plans that will get you there but it will be tough and expensive. In all reality I would consider getting different pigs...it's no fun to have to hold them that long and still make them look good...and have them focus on training, etc.
