Feeding out Duroc

Post by JRFFAMom » Thu Jan 17, 2019 10:35 am

We have a 225 pound Duroc that was shown last week. We will be processing him Feb 12th. He has been on Lindners 672 and yaggies oat groats. He needs a bit more fat in the hinds and to be filled out some in the belly. He has plenty of fat in jows. What would be the best ideal diet to give him to prepare him for slaughter and processing? This is our first year showing, and just need a bit of advice to get us thru.

Cut out the show feed and get low protein hog feed. Also you can mix in some extra corn.

Thank you for the response. Would a sweet all livestock feed be ok? That's what the feed store pointed me to when getting his feed yesterday.

Do not feed sweet feed. Use a hog finishing ration if it is just being finished out for slaughter
