Which feeding direction should I go?

Post by Phantom 309 » Fri Apr 05, 2019 11:04 am

I'd like to say thanks in advance to anyone willing to offer some advice to my question! I know that without pics an videos it's a very subjective question but I'll do my best to give you all of the information that I can...

I need some advice on how to go about finishing out our barrow for our first show this spring. In my opinion, we need to tone him up some, and get his muscles to "pop" a bit. Right now he's got plenty of muscle and ribs but not alot of definition. He's not fat but his belly is right on the verge of getting a little low and he could stand to lose just a little in the jowell area as well. Nothing major though, just fine tuning. The problem is though, that we feel he could also use just a a tad more "cover" across the top of his back. As of today we are 23 days from weigh in, 24 days from show day. In a nutshell, we need more muscle definition, without adding fat to his body while keeping a decent cover on him. Easy enough, right?

Right now he weighs approx 245 and is gaining approx 1.7 lbs per day on 4lbs of Lindners 632 & 2lbs Moormans Time Out. (Our max show weight is 300) We have been holding him back the last 10 or so days in hopes of feeding him out normally the last 22 days. He was gaining 3.2lbs per day on 10lbs of Lindners 632 before that. Just for the sake of giving you the most information, he primarily has been raised on the 632.

Our thought is to start him on 9G of Lindner Vitamin P when we're 21 days from show, put him back on 9-10 lbs of 632 (20% protein-5% fat) and add Tune N the last 10 or so days. He has a very sound, stout frame that can handle the extra mass. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

We also considered mixing the 632 with 611 (23% protein - 7% Fat with a light amount of Ractopamine) since we always like feeding extra fat along with Paylean, but am also scared to put anymore fat to him that might stick in the belly or jowels. We also have Moorbody and Fat N Fluffy on hand as well (not that we'll need it, but the option is there.)

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to make sure I'm giving you as much info as possible. Again, thanks in advance for any advice! This one has me a bit stumped.

.....I also forgot to mention that they are on Surechamp Spark as well. That doesn't have much to do with my scenario, but thought I'd post it just in case someone has concerns about his gut health on the Paylean. Thanks again!

You seem to have it covered. paylean is going to increase what you want increased along with extra gain but it will also burn fat. I would not make any drastic changes while adding the paylean. you do not want to disrupt things this close to the show and go off feed.
