Need some help, struggling to hold

Post by Pignamedcash » Mon Jul 29, 2019 12:29 am

Weighed in today at 281 after 6 days of what we thought would “hold” it was a 9 lb gain. Here are some the details...fair weigh in is 22 days... top weight is 295, giving us 14 lbs to work with. He has been pan fed for the past three weeks and we continue to try and find the right diet to hold... obviously we need some help. This past week he has been given oats, two cups of powerfill, 1 cup of 819, and 16oz if fitter 35 twice a day. At this point I am more nervous to weigh my pig than myself. Are there any suggestions or thoughts on how to hold his weight? Thank you!

Keep in mind water weight as well. 1 gallon of water = 8lbs. I would weigh daily. Also, have you increased exercise?

Thank you, we will be parking the scale next to them. We have been walking twice a day. We are wondering there is a better diet to hold his weight?

If the cup is an High Octane cup (comes in the High Octane supplements that are packaged in a bucket), then you are feeding about 4 lb per day. Gaining 1.5 lb per day on this diet is about what I would expect.

Just wondering; where did you come by this diet? And what were you expecting the pig to gain?

By the way rolled oats do not “hold” pigs. They are actually very good feed. If you are really wanting to slow the pig down then feed:

(Total daily feed; divide into 2 equal meals):
High Octane Fitter 35. 3 lb
High Octane Depth Charge. 1/2 lb (8 oz).

This is our second year, we have had a lot of people giving advice that seems to be contradictory. Would the amount of food hold the pig to make weight of 295? He is a great looking show pig and it would break our heart if he doesn’t make weight. I hope we aren’t too late. Our goal was to try and keep him under a pound per day, but we knew we were in trouble once the scale hit.
Thank you, we will keep pan feeding the above recommendations and cross our fingers. To be posted...

Weighed tonight and a new weight of 275 with 16 days left until weigh in. The weight range is 240 to 295. We would like him close to 290 at weigh in.

KGB what would you recommend we pan feed him now?

We have been feeding the previous plan that you recommended.

Thank you so much for relieving our stress tonight.

We would like to see him tighten up, and get a little more fill.
