Poor ADG

Post by rettu » Sat Sep 05, 2020 8:15 pm

We have been showing pigs for many years. This year is a first. Our pigs are still eating well but their ADG is terrible. We have tried sunglo and Lindner both and no difference. We have pigs eating 7 pounds a day and only gaining a little over one pound. I know this is not normal. I am just looking for some advise. We have never had one underweight pig in our life and we are possibly going to have as many as four this year because of the this terrible ADG.

Couple of thoughts:

1. Check pigs’ temperature. Normal is about 102.5. If much higher they may be ill, but then they wouldn’t eat well

2. Check your scales one or more of your weight may be wrong

Two year ago i had a whole litter that didn't grow. They were sold to multiple people who all fed different ways. They all strugled to put weight on. If they are all from the same litter it is very possible it could just be genetics. Some of these crossbreds just dont grow. I would make sure they are wormed and have adequate water also. Coul calso be the problem.
