Help with beet pulp

Post by ChiefClark61 » Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:43 pm

It was recommended to me to try using beet pulp without molasses to help hold a pig that has been gaining too fast. I have never even seen beet pulp so I do not know what to buy or where to look. Can anyone help me with what to look for and where?? I see that tractor supply sells Standlee brand pellets and shreds for horses. It says it has a “secondary molasses byproduct” so I don’t know if that’s the same or not. Pellets or shreds?? I don’t have a clue what to do at this point. Any help would be awesome!!

Beet pulp is a filler. It has very, very little nutritional value. Pigs have daily nutrient requirements that must be met so they don’t lose muscle, fat cover and freshness.

Just using beet pulp is a recipe for disaster.

I am mixing about a cup of beet pulp with a high fat feed hoping it slows him down without starving him and making him fall apart.

Just a thought we (Purina Honor Show feeds) have a product called Powerfill that is specifically designed to slow growth and keep the pig looking great. Actually, look better while slowing growth.
