need to gain weight

Post by showpig123 » Tue Feb 23, 2021 12:14 pm

my gilt is currently 170lbs weigh ins is in 21 days where minimum weight is 220lbs.

all the shows she’s gone to the judges say they love her she’s just small compared to the others in her class.

i just need to make weight for the show any suggestions. currently, she’s being very picky and won’t eat. she’ll eat for a minute or so then have no interest in her feed

What are you feeding (feeds and supplements... what are they and how much per day)?

How is she watered? (How does she receive water?)

Has she always been small? Or was she sick at one point?

We are in a similar situation. Pigs are sitting at 81,83,87 and 91 pounds with 67 days until weigh ins. They are averaging 1.6-2 pounds per day the last 14 days.

We are currently hand feeding 4.5# a day of kalmabach 18% feed and Increasing every 5 days trying to reach 6+ pounds per day. They are top dressed with a scoop of milk replacer and kryptonite each feeding.

Ideally we would like to reach 2.5 AVD the last 30 days. How much feed can we pack on them a day without having lameness issues?

We also battlesd some sickness in the barn that slowed are pigs down this year. Ideally we would be over 100# weeks ago and coasting to the finish line
