Excede dosage

Post by ddwil » Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:47 am

What is the maximum dosage you can give of Excede? I read where it is only 2ml, if this is correct you cant give it to a bigger showpig. I just want to be sure I am not dosing off label

Label says do not give more than 1cc per 44 pounds, and do not give more than 2cc in one area or it will increase your withdrawal time. i would follow those guidelines very closely, and maybe even give a little extra time for withdrawal. I have heard of a few animals who were still positive even though the guidelines were followed exactly.

mict71 has it right on a pig over 88 lbs you need to use multiple injection sites.

Hog doc, I have another question regarding penicillin G and lutlylase. I have a gilt that is overdue by two days for farrowing and treated her with 15 cc of pen for mastitis on one side of her udder yesterday. How soon will this take effect? also, should I give her a second dose? Also, If I giver her lutylase today, how soon after should I expect her to farrow? Thanks for your help.

Penicillin is likely useless for mastitis in a sow. All it does is create an extended slaughter withdrawal. I’d go with a broader spectrum antibiotic.
The average time of farrowing after induction with lutalyse is 30 hours.

Thank you, the penicillin worked for her mastitis and we didn't have to use lutylase after all.
