Scabs on Chesters pigs back help

Post by Wacky » Fri May 17, 2019 4:17 pm

I have 5 pigs in a pen. Two are Chester barrows. I had someone taking care them as I was gone for a week. Came back to find the one pigs whole back is cover in scabs. The other has some but not as many as the other one. It’s not sunburn. Any guesses what it is and how to treat it ? Should I treat others? Could it spread to others across the barn? Thank you! I have pictures but not sure how to post them???

Are you sure it is not a sunburn? It has been my experience that most of the scabbing on the center of the back are caused by sunburns. I think pictures would help a lot. Most of the time we use Aloe on the burns along with keeping it clean and out of the sun.

Could be a staph infection, too. That gets treated with pen-G. Yes, it can spread.
