Pigs on concrete getting sores on legs

Post by brooklyn_p12 » Wed Jun 26, 2019 2:51 pm

My family has just recently poured concrete in our show barn. The three barrows that are in the pen with concrete are all getting rub spot/sores on their legs. They are located at the knee, sides of the legs, and back of the cannon bone. I am pretty sure that these sores are being cause by the concrete as they did not appear while the pigs were on dirt. Is there anything that I can to to prevent and threat these sores? We are a month away from the show. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You need to cover the concrete with shavings. They need as much as you can use. I lined the bottom 18 inches of our pens with felt or rubber so that the shavings do not fall out and I can put a lot of shavings. I would say at least put 8 to 10 inches of shavings in their pens. Then I would add a couple of fresh bags every couple of weeks.
