Chronic Cough and heavy breathing

Post by pigmom333 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 3:53 pm

We have never had a real issue with pigs and pneumonia. Usually we treat with linco, banamine, and dex for 3 days and they’re fine. The last month we have gotten 4 Yorkshire pigs from the same litter that have developed a chronic cough and begin breathing very heavy not long after. It has gotten to the point where they cannot get out and walk without choking and being unable to breathe. They have been treated with 3 days of linco, banamine, and dex as well as excede twice. Just trying to figure out if there’s anything else we can do. They seem to just get worse no matter what we’re doing.

Worm them and give mycoplasmal vaccine.

One of two things, worms or mycoplasmal pneumonia.

Use exceed when they cough and if that does not work it’s likely not weather related pneumonia.

Worming is a good suggestion to try first. We have had really good success with Nuflor as an antibiotic. Even better and quicker results than Draxxin.
