Skin lesion? Scratch? (Help, new show mom!)

Post by KaleeTaylor » Mon Jan 27, 2020 12:37 am

I just noticed a little skin lesion or scratch or irritated area...? Not sure what it is? It’s red, kind of raised and bumpy-ish. Don’t know if it’s a cause for concern? I’ll watch it to see if it spreads.

Also, I was told to give Ivermec monthly to keep mange away. I have a local tractor supply... I’d rather not give a shot, I was told I can give orally, can you please tell me or show me exactly what to get and how much to give? My daughter is 8 and it’s her first year showing. She’s trying hard but is lost. Thank you!

That looks like it could be the start of mites. They usually start on the belly and arm pit areas. The best thing we have used is Dectomax. It takes care of internal and external parasites. Your best bet is to give the shot. It's the most effective way to give the medicine. There is a product called "the slap shot" that is an easy way to administer the shot.

Also worth noting. Mites generally start occurring in unclean bedding and moist areas. Make sure you are mucking your stalls regularly.

I actually ordered Ivermec online before I read your reply... I’ll go ahead and administer in shot form...really hoping this isn’t what it really is. But thank you very much for advice.
