Ulcer- advice please!

Post by Abpickerel » Sun Apr 10, 2022 7:50 am

We are having major issues with our Crossbred Barrow. We've determined, with a vet's help over the phone, that our Barrow has an ulcer.
We've been giving pepto, omeprozole paste, B12 paste and electrolytes. He still isn't wanting to eat on his own (going on 7 days now) but we are basically forcing him to eat (wet feed with pro gut and cake mix for the sweetness, We've also given bananas and yogurt)
He occasionally gets up to drink or change spots but that's it.
Even with eating a little each day, he hasn't had a bowel movement in about 3 or 4 days. Most likely because of the meds. So we're trying to figure out a safe way to fix the constipation. We're going to email Purdue (we're a couple of hours away from there)
But I wanted to ask here if anyone has dealt with this before!

Give omeprazole about an hour before feeding. Same with pepto. Make sure you provide clean clear cool water..

Feed yogurt. Once he is eating some yogurt, start with oat groats. Can mix with some ground feed and wet his feed if he likes that. Use a little banana or whatever to topdress to entice him
