Just curious on the chances of a gilt coming in a week early? I was working in the barn getting things ready for next weekend and I heard this gilt grunting while she was sleeping, went over to her and rubbed her belly and found milk in just about all of her nipples. She was due from the first time I bred her for Feb 6th. If I did my math right, she was bred on Oct 15th and I finished her on Oct 16th.

Yeah, I put her in the pen with the heat lamps on, better play it safe even if she holds out all week.
She will lay down just like she has pigs sucking on her and grunts in rythem, then you can squirt any of the nipples. Dont think I can recall a time like this.

But if you get a little moisture from the teat, then you still have time (from my experience). It will start in the front teats and work its way back. But if it is squirting, get her in the crate/pen now.
Good luck

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. In the past we have found the clear moisture, then it turns sticky, then the milk, and then the pigs.
She shows no signs of being restless or nesting. We have had milk a few days before the due date, but not a week.

Well she finally had her litter Friday night, no other signs of farrowing. I checked her at 5pm and nothing, and by 9:30 she already had 8 on the ground and after sleeving a huge gilt she had another 6, and we still have 12 living. She is not producing much milk as I see some of the pigs starting to go backwards, talked with the vet and they advised a cc of Oxy every day to see if she comes out of it.
Is there any feed additive that we could give her?
