gilt squirting milk with no discharge

Post by Luke30 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 5:24 am

I know what people will tell me but here it goes anyways. I have a gilt that is due sunday, on thuresaday afternoon I checked her and she had squirtng milk out of all 14 teats. I thought ok she is going a little early, no big deal. that was at 5o p.m. I went back out every two hours to check on her and there was never any discharge, at 11:00 p..m. she appeared to be pushing and had the shakes that they alway get, but still no discharge, it is now around 4:00 a.m. and the same thing is going on. I know that I just need to be patient, at least I hope, but I have never had one that squirts milk like this out of all of her teats, this long anyways, and doing all of the pushing that she is doing with no signs of discharge. This is a reason that I hate farrowing out glts!! you never know with them! I am looking for someone to tell me to settle down it will be ok.

You are correct you need to be patient and they will come when it is time. Let us know how it turns out.

If it helps, this week a gilt of mine squirted milk out of all tits on Monday. She was pushing hard and had the shakes. Come Wednesday evening, her duedate, I fed her and she stood up to eat. Five minutes later she laid back down and I saw two feet pop out of her. Three hours later she had eight all alive pigs nursing. Goodluck. I am as impatient as they get.

The spot litter was interesting, my daughter showed her and got all tearry eyed when it came time to ship her when she was done showing her, I caved and kept her, got some cheap overrun semen and now here they are. I've never raised a litter of spots before and ur right they are kinda cute.
