Matrix Help
Matrix Help
I have four gilts that I'm trying to get bred for next summer fairs. I gave them matrix for 15 days. The last day of matrix was a week ago on Friday. I saw two of the gilts start swelling on Wednesday (day 5 after the last dose of matrix), so I ordered semen on Thursday and it arrived on Friday. I figured that they should have been standing either Friday or Saturday, but so far, none of the four gilts have offered to stand at all. I've used boar spray and my boar to check them, but they refuse to stand. Today is day 10 after the last dose of matrix and I'm at a loss as to what I need to do. I need to breed on this cycle in order make weight at the fair. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Re: Matrix Help
The couple of times I've used matrix I followed it with pg600. 14 days of matrix with a dose of pg600 on day 15. Within 3-5 days you should have them in standing heat. I used that method on some berk gilts last month and on day 3 had minimal swelling but on day 4 all of them were standing.
Did you give the matix and follow it with pg600?

Re: Matrix Help
No, I did not use pg600 after the matrix this time.
Re: Matrix Help
I would recommend following with a dose of PG600 on the last day.
Of interest I have seen swelling and what looked like a cycle within three days followed by what was a cycle on day 5-6 on two of my berks. We measured the numbers with a Dramaski and you would of swore that it was the cycle but there was no stand. It is a quick drop with the numbers and then a rise, followed by another quick drop and rise where we bred. For those who don't use a Dramaski, you usually breed on the rise, because that is the ovulation phase. But these rises were two to three days apart. You wait for the animal to bottom out and when the numbers start raising the hog is in ovulation. Not sure what is causing this with hogs that go matrix and finish with a shot of PG600.

Re: Matrix Help
Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I think I'll definitely be using pg600 with the matrix the next time I try to synchronize females.
Re: Matrix Help
Other thing to watch is your Matrix storage, protect from light and temp fluctuations. I hear best results with 18 days of Matrix followed by pg600.

Re: Matrix Help
Hog Doc question- I was notified I need to be out of town on days 5 and 6 following Matrix. My experience has been this is when the 2 gilts are most likely to be in standing heat. This post refers to 18 days on matrix. If I kept them 19 days I could have fresh semen on day 4 and be home starting day 3. I have pg600. Hog Doc -what are your thoughts.
