Overdue Gilt

Post by jenniferc9695 » Thu Oct 27, 2016 8:54 am

I have a gilt due Oct 25th who panted half the day yesterday and still nothing. She is obviously hurting but no fluids and she will still jump up if you walk in and even eat. Will lutalyse still help me if she has been stuck in early labor or is she in trouble? I was already worried about her as she is pretty small.

Probably should talk to your vet about inducing her. Most protocols call for estrumate or lutalyse, followed by oxytocin. Most scenarios like this result in lots of stillborns at best, c sections or sow mortality at worst. Does she have milk?

Yes she has milk.

My vet said c-section was out of the question. He said it is basically a death sentence in pigs.

I gave her .75cc of lutalyse at 11:30am. She is panting harder maybe. No other change. Still up and down. Still eating nervously. No discharge.

Good thing on the milk, means she is ready. Best advice is to follow the instructions from your vet.
