Cleaning a sow previous to birth of pigs

Post by Rway » Thu Dec 22, 2016 10:29 pm

What solution is best to clean a sows udder area and teats previous to birth of pigs to kill bacteria, etc. That will not effect the new pigs wanting to attach - due to residue. Just curious.

Bathe them prior to loading in the crates is one option. Have never heard of a teat prep for sows.

We use the Hogwash solution as noted above. Don't need very much of it. ! cap for the top and another cap on your brush for the belly and you will get plenty of suds. Just be sure you rinse it all off.
