Pre Farrowing Gilt

Post by Lsmw2013 » Mon Jan 02, 2017 11:37 am

I have a gilt that is due in 3 days. She has been not wanting to eat for the last three days, she's drinking plenty of water. Her vulva is swollen but seems very puffy and hard. My question is this all common? Or should I try to give her a shot of medicine. This is my first time farrowing and I am hoping it's just me being paranoid.

Thanks!

3 days not eating....
temp her and make sure she is not sick.
Vulva's do get very swollen, but usually soften up just before farrow
Not eating---I would go ahead and look up the ulcer protocol and get her started on it. Don't need her to have an ulcer before she goes into a stressful situation (farrowing). Search for ulcer protocol on this site. HogDoc has plenty of good information about this.

Is she constipated?

Just thinking.....

Thank you for your advice! We were lucky the farrowing process went smooth and we have a very healthy litter at 11. Mom and babies doing great.
