One stuck!

Post by Jssp » Thu Jan 19, 2017 10:30 am

Just a quick question, we had a summer litter and had a piglet get stuck. Never could get it out and sow was so sick not sure how she lived but pulled thru. She is looking good and healthy but has never came back in cycle. It's been about 5 months since that litter. Tried pg600 with no effect, but used a slap shot to inject so not positive that I got a full 5cc

When you use the slap shot there is approx. 4 cc of overfill you account for. So with PG600 you pull up 9cc from the bottle and attach the slap shot to your syringe to the tubing and clear the tubing. When you see medication start to push through the needle that you have attached at the other end you should be close to 5 cc in the syringe. Keep pushing until you get to the 5 cc line. Give the shot by pushing the syringe all the way until the plunger stops. You have just delivered 5 cc of medication.

Any opinions or experience with sow's not coming back in after being left inside? Can that cause them to not cycle or become pregnant

It's possible. Pigs that don't pass and the resulting infection can be brutal. That's why she was so sick. Not sure what your plans are for her, but non cycling females are typically culled. They have to show heat to be part of the program.
