prolasped sow

Post by jcweisd » Tue Feb 14, 2017 1:51 pm

I have a sow that has a vaginal prolapse from Friday. we got here sowed up and now it appears she has an infection. So I treated her with exceed. She is due to farrow this coming Saturday. My question is what is the earliest we can try to farrow her and have a good chance of live babies? Is 113 days the earliest?

Are you sure it was cervical? That much trauma and infection, those babies have to pass through the cervix to come out. I would consider a C section or plan ahead to have one if needed. Watch that sow and those babies close we had one with bad infection and lost half the litter because the piglets were exposed to the infection and were poor doers.

That's what are vet called it. He also said we may be able to farrow her but he is on standby in case we need a C-section. We would like to farrow her early. She is 110 days now.
