Advice

Post by wufpkgrl » Thu May 25, 2017 9:59 am

I am 5 months away from my first litter. I have worked on a hog farm producing market animals before so I do have experience with farrowing, but these are my show pigs and babies. Any advice as we approach the farrowing date? Anything you recommend to have on hand just in case. I want to be prepared for the worse and make sure I have missed nothing. Thanks

Did you mean 5 weeks? If it's 5 months, then you haven't bred her yet.

If this is a gilt you're farrowing, have a good pig puller (whatever kind you're comfortable with), OB gloves, lube and oxytocin. Also some DRYGIENE to roll the piglets in and to coat the mat/floor with. Ear notchers, syringes, needles, processing meds (antibiotic, iron, vaccines). Some antibiotic and dexamethasone for the sow if needed.
