Breeding a gilt
I tried breeding a first time gilt this morning and could not get her to consistently lock the rod. She stood locked up hard and pinned her ears. I could get her to lock the rod in and put the semen bottle on. She would pull the semen in with absolutely no pressure from me. After about 1/4 bottle she would release rid and spit semen back out. She did the 4 times during the breed. Over the years none of our sows or other gilts have done this. Any suggestions?

What style of rod are you using? Could try a spiral tip instead of the plug type. Follow your protocol for second dose, some gilts don't follow the book.
