Post by nycountryboy » Mon Jan 22, 2018 2:15 pm

we have 33 sows,,bred our replacement gilts to farrow first,it is a pasture system but for spring farrowing we have 7 pens, so they started to farrow,1 good mother while her full sister,in the next pen at the same time is farrowing and want to eat each one,,,we used the first gilt to adopt the remander of the second,,,a 3rd sister was uddered up good put in a pen , now no udder no babies,,whats going on ???

The bad temperament is probably genetic imo but can also be triggered by something in the environment at times. Have had gilts that want to savage pigs until they are finished farrowing ten are fine. Have also had gilts with ultra sensitive teats that I had to clip teeth at birth and when done were fine.

The other gilt sounds like pseudo pregnancy.
