Adverse Effects of Lincomycin 300 on gilt 3 weeks from AI?

Post by CourtKat » Tue Apr 03, 2018 10:01 am

I have a 33 - 34 week old gilt that has started coughing and showing possible signs of early-onset arthritis. She is currently on matrix and Farrowsure gold. Would like to give her some Linc 300, but want to make sure it won't cause any adverse side effects on breeding her. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

These are just my opinions/thoughts.

I wouldn't think the antibiotic would interfere with breeding. However, if she has a virus or bacterial infection, I would think that might interfere. Also, in my experience, you want to make sure you give Farrowsure Gold weeks before breeding. I've administered too close to breeding in the past, and I do think it interfered with my gilts getting pregnant on that cycle.

Thanks! She got her 2nd round of farrowsure gold this week. Breeding in 3 weeks. Hope we can get her well by then! If not, we may have to wait another cycle! Thanks for the info!

An anti-inflammatory, like banamine, would also help if she's limping. Good luck!
