Retained pig

Post by Teddyballgame047 » Mon Jul 23, 2018 8:02 pm

We have a crossbred gilt that farrowed on Sunday to 12 piglets. 1 stillborn and 11 healthy. The last one was stuck deep and turned awkwardly. We couldn't get it out so called the vet. She came out and turned him got him out, followed by a huge placenta. He was fine. She checked again and found nothing. So we gave her antibiotics and thought everything was fine. About 24 hours later she passed one more dead. My question is how do I know there are not anymore pigs inside of there???

When the sow has passed two afterbirths, you'll know she's finished. A sow has 2 horns, and she needs to pass both afterbirths for you to know she's done from each horn.
