Matrix for 13 days?

Post by ddwil » Sun Oct 14, 2018 3:50 pm

I was looking at stopping Matrix after 13 days(tomorrow) to get the gilt to come into heat sooner(maybe day 4 after I stop)? Will this be effective or not?

It all depends upon when in her normal cycle you started the Matrix. As long as you didn't start it just as she was coming into heat than she should come into heat 5 to 7 days after stopping the Matrix. You actually don't have to feed 14 days in order for it to work. Matrix is a synthetic progesterone which is the hormone that she naturally produces to maintain the pregnancy. As long as you started it before she stops producing it naturally it will stop the process of her coming into heat. The labeling of 14 days is really a "catch-all" for feeding it to a group of gilts to get them all cycling together. No matter when it was started in their cycle they all should come into heat in 5 to 7 days after stopping feeding it. You should be fine.
